We will study the Kac model. This is a toy model used to
understand how the thermodynamic behavior of a gas (e.g. air) emerges
from the microscopic dynamics of a large number of colliding particles
(the molecules). We will focus on the validity of the Boltzmann
equation. The main mathematical tool we will use are: probability
theory, dynamical system and differential equations.
